| Jessica is studying at the kitchen table when her roommate, Angela, walks through the living room with a huge bag of clothing. |
| J=Jessica A=Angela |
| J: | Where are you taking all of those dirty clothes? |
| A: | To my mom's. She always does my laundry. |
| J: | Are you serious? That's just lazy! You don't even have to go to a Laundromat. We have a washing machine right here. (Closing her books) Come on. I'll show you how to operate it. |
(At the washing machine) |
| A: | OK, so I load it with dirty clothes. (Emptying the bag into the washing machine) Where's the laundry powder? |
| J: | No! You'll ruin them that way. First, you need to sort them. Different fabrics need to be washed differently. |
| A: | You mean I can't mix wool with silk? |
| J: | No. Wool has to be washed on the gentle cycle and only with cold water. It's best to wash silk clothing by hand with a special detergent. |
| A: | How am I supposed to know all that? |
| J: | Just look at the clothing tag for care instructions. |
| A: | (Picking up a dress) This one says "Dry-clean only." |
| J: | You'll have to take it to the dry cleaners. If you had machine-washed it, you might have ruined it. |
| A: | Oh, OK. So, I'll just take this out, and you can finish up the sorting and washing. Thanks! (She exits.) |
| J: | (Calling after her) Hey, wait! I'm not your mother! |

| 洗衣服 |
潔西卡在廚房餐桌上唸書，她的室友安琪拉拿著一大袋衣服走過客廳。 |
| 潔西卡： | 妳要把那些髒衣服拿到哪裡去？ |
| 安琪拉： | 拿去我媽媽那裡。她一直都替我洗衣服。 |
| 潔西卡： | 妳是認真的嗎？那很懶惰耶！妳甚至連自助洗衣店都不用去。我們這裡就有一台洗衣機。（闔上書本）來吧。我教妳怎麼操作。 |
（在洗衣機旁邊） |
| 潔西卡： | 好，所以我把髒衣服都裝進去。（將袋子倒空到洗衣機裡）洗衣粉在哪裡？ |
| 安琪拉： | 不行！妳那樣會毀了衣服。首先，妳必須將它們分類。不同的布料需要分開洗。 |
| 潔西卡： | 妳意思是我不能把毛料和絲質混在一起洗？ |
| 安琪拉： | 不行。毛料必須在溫和洗程下清洗，而且只能用冷水。絲質衣服最好用特殊洗潔劑手洗。 |

| 安琪拉： | 看衣服標籤上的保養說明就知道了。 |

| 潔西卡： | 喔，好吧。那麼，我就帶這件出去，妳可以分類分好放下去洗。謝啦！（她走出去。） |
| 安琪拉： | （在背後叫她）喂，等等！我不是妳媽耶！ |
